We got ahold of Young Kira to gather a bit more info regarding his mysterious self and these highly anticipated EP’s.
How long have you been making music and what got you started?
Sometimes it feels like i’m making music for more than the half of my life actually and sometimes it feels like i’m JUST starting to figure out what I REALLY wanna do in music and where my place as a singer, rapper and producer is. I remember the day when my friends from London Nebel, two really talented dubstep producers from Germany, showed me one of the first “dubstep“ tunes at a freestyle-rap session we used to meet each other at every Tuesday. It was 2009 if I remember right. I had never heard anything like that before and I was curious, I wanted to figure out how to make beats sounding as huge as that. These guys mentored my rookie-ass and I did nothing but produce and write music for the next five summers.
How would you personally describe your sound?
Usually I hate to describe art. I think everyone would describe it differently, you know what i’m saying? Most people would say that music is always a mirror of your mood and most times i’m really in a good mood. But, I hate making “happy“ music and I am very bad at it, actually. I like the dark & melancholic stuff.
What was it like working with TJ Beastboy?
I’ve known TJ Beastboy now for more than 5 years I think. It’s always cool to work with him. I think at first we were trying to figure out how he wants himself to sound and in the latest projects we got very close to his vision, which makes me happy! By the way, the “Hyperreal Ravelord“ EP from TJ Beastboy was very much inspired from my EDM phase that I was talking about earlier! He said he likes beats with a four to the floor vibe to it and I was like “say no more, fam! i got this!” Maybe there will be a second Ravelord EP! Let’s see what the future brings up.
Are you surprised by your success with music?
I don’t want to sound cocky or something, but I knew that '“success“ in some way was waiting for me. I was working way to hard for this, but “success“ can mean something different for every artist. I think i’m still not where i want to be, but I will be at some point. Mark my words.
If you weren’t making music what would you be doing?
I would watch the 'Ali G’ movie over and over again until I die.
What can fans expect from your new EP’s?
I am working on three EP’s at the same time, actually. My listeners can expect the best music they’ve ever heard from me. I was in my turtle shell for some time now, just to figure out where, what and who I am trying to be as Young Kira. I think slowly i’m getting it. After some months looking at my drawing board, I started to realize that overthinking music (shoutout Lgoony) makes it work and I don’t like when it feels like work. My next projects will be PURE.
Where did you derive inspiration from for the new EP’s?
Pop culture and my producer homie Thani, my brother Navy and my visual artist John-Karlifetz. Everything is an inspiration.
You’re going out on tour, what are you most excited for?
Tour dates are now in October and December, fuck Corona! Yeah! Ii’m hyped! I’m most excited to play new songs in front of our listeners, design new merch and work on the movement as a whole!
Do you have many American listeners?
I dont know, man! I don’t look at my stats and all that stuff. A fan told me one time about always watching a Russian camgirl and she was bumping my music, That was so funny to me. American’s, by the way, I recorded a song with NESSLY which will be on one of the EP’s I will release this year. The song will be fire. I love NESSLY. He’s so talented.
If you could say one thing to new fans, or people exploring your music for the first time what would it be?
It’s different, right?! That’s a good thing. Fan drives safely away in the night, singing along to Young Kira songs
