The daydream Masi Interview
There are two things that come to mind when a daydream Masi tune graces the ears of a listener for the first time. The first being ‘absolutely soulful’ and the second being ‘haven’t I heard this before?’. Well it is very possible that you have caught a snippet of the Akron, Ohio artist’s fervent melody ‘Favorite Drug’ in Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” or maybe the floaty melancholic vibe is just reminiscent of a past life. Either way, its best to get better acquainted now. As the spring approaches and the flowers bloom, there is never a better time to throw on some new music and welcome the sun and nobody does sunshine better than daydream Masi.
Last year “The slow rage Project” was released on all platforms and met with great review, while just recently a mixtape by the title of “Television shows” was dropped on soundcloud with the intention to follow up with a third project “Movie Scenes” later in the year. Eloquent lyricism and far out overtones are fluent on the projects with cold and catchy hip hop influences breaking through in the newer releases. We got in touch with the young artist to talk about inspiration, the past and the future with attention to his upcoming music video releasing today.
If there was one thing you wanted new listeners to know about you what would it be?
- One thing I would want listeners and fans to know about me is that I love creativity and I am skilled in many activities and arenas including music. I don't just sit in a studio all day. I go out and try things and meet people and feel all types of stuff which ultimately makes the magic that happens in the studio so much more beautiful and powerful.
What/who influenced you to create music to start with?
- I began making music as an attempt at fame, but for a good reason, believe it or not. I wanted to become famous to find a girl that I had fallen in love with while I was in high school. We connected on the beaches of South Carolina and clicked instantly. I was much too afraid to ask for her number after the few spell-driven days we spent together and I lost her in the wind, never to be seen again.
Do you still derive inspiration from them in your current music? if not, who inspires you now?
-No. This girl still echoes in my mind every once in a while, but all that remains are fragments of memories. Right now, romance still greatly inspires me, but I am looking towards more rhythms of life to pull from these days.
Your music video for "Lately" is obviously quite popular, did you do the creative direction yourself?
-Yes. I co wrote the script with my partners on my management team and we brought it to life. There was a double rainbow that day. It was very special.
What can listeners expect from upcoming projects?
-I don't even know what to expect on my own upcoming projects, but with me, its always about you. So, you can expect honesty, heart, and more good things that I believe better the world.
What is your ultimate goal with music?
- My ultimate goal with music is to do it the right way. Or at least what I perceive to be the right way. I want to live a beautiful life, frequent the light, and touch people's hearts with my voice.
If you could give artists who are just starting out in the industry a piece of advice, what would it be?
- Relax. Every artist has their own journey just as every person has their own life. Also, thinking a little long term doesn't hurt sometimes.
