2020 Horror Film Releases to Watch Out For

The past decade has seen major film advancements in the world of horror, and 2020 is determined to bring us even more change and growth. The cheesy horror films of the past are not long forgotten, nor will they cease to be repeated. However, true creativity and important topics of conversation have seeped their way into the genre with films like “Hereditary” and “Get Out” winning major awards for not only writing but cinematography as well. Whether you’re a horror junkie or just love a good scare every once in a while, here’s a great place to start.

A QUIET PLACE 2

Director and actor, John Krasinksi is back with his second horror film set to release March, 18th. Krasinksi, the ever lovable “The Office” actor has directed a multitude of other films outside of the horror genre in the past including titles such as “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” and “The Hollars”. The original “A Quiet Place” received multiple awards and was met with rave reviews, especially from those in the deaf and hard of hearing demographic. Horror Fans are waiting with bated breath to see how Krasinksi ties the sequel into the already cryptic world he’s created.

“Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.”

ANTLERS

“A young teacher discovers that her troubled student's father and younger brother harbor a deadly supernatural secret. Taking the boy into her care, the teacher must fight for their survival against horrors beyond imagination.”

Scott Cooper the Director behind “Crazy Heart” and “Hostiles” teams up with Horror king Guillermo del Toro to bring us this flesh eating monster filled beauty. del Toro is famous for his monsters, which have been showcased in films such as “The Shape Of Water” and “Pans Labyrinth” Antlers is no different, the most recent trailers gives us a look at Antlers culprit and it leaves no room for the faint of heart. Antlers is set to release April 15th.

The Devil All The Time

The film adaptation of the famous novel by Donald Ray Pollock is hitting theaters May 15th. Directed by Antonio Campos, if the adaptation is anything like novel it is set to be a psychological thriller based from the end of WW2 to the 1960’s, following a cast of strange characters with a load of dark and compelling twists and turns. The film hosts an especially impressive cast, including the likes of Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Eliza Scanlen and Bill Skarsgard.

ANTEBELLUM

From the Producers of “Get Out” and “US” comes Antebellum, another mind-bending piece. This very mysterious film by first time big screen directors Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz releases April 22nd. Jenelle Monae acts as Veronica, A successful author who finds herself in a horrifying reality and must figure out the mystery behind it before it is too late.

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO

“A young girl, passionate in fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences.”

Personally, my most anticipated film of 2020 has to be this psychological horror pice by Edgar Wright releasing September 17th. Wright has made a massive name for himself in the film world with releases such as “Baby Driver” and “Hot Fuzz” becoming quick cult classics. “IT” and “The Handmaiden” cinematographer Chung-Hoon Chung joins Wright on Last Night In Soho, another incredibly aspect to the film.
