4 days in Bucerias Mexico
Bucerías is a small beach town on the pacific coast in riviera Nayarit about half an hour away from puerto Vallarta airport.
In the middle of February i was approached with the opportunity to visit a country I’ve never been to, Mexico. Originally the trip was meant to be a week but with scheduling difficulties it was cut down to 4 days. 4 days was more than enough for me to fall madly in love with the country and culture. With such a quick turnaround including 6-7 hour flights i had to plan accordingly and crunch as much of Mexico as i could get into such little time.
Day 1
A day Plagued with flight difficulties and travel changes, i caught a flight from Portland to Dallas and through to Puerto Vallarta and landed in PVR around 3pm. A 2 hour customs check was making me antsy to get outside and i wasn’t disappointed when i did. A wave of 80 degree mild humidity hit me like a ton of bricks compared to the 19 degree snowy nightmare i had come from. A quick 25 minute cab ride to Bucerías had me mesmerized with the architecture and lively streets. With no time to spare after reaching the hotel i did a quick check in to the competitively priced but gorgeous 5 person villa I’d be staying in with the rest of the travel gang. We headed down the beach to “Dugarels plays”. shrimp cocktails, steaks, red snapper and Chile’s rellenos for everyone at $20 usd per person and possibly the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life. We wanted to drink with locals so we embarked on a journey to do so, we found a bar with a gorgeous girl singing in the corner on the beach and had our first tequila shot in Mexico to end the night.
Day 2
Waking up bright and early to the coastal sun i threw on a hat to protect my fragile ginger skin and ended up at a flea market. Soon after, i realized my Spanish skills are totally shit and i probably should’ve tried to haggle in English instead. I spent the rest of the day in the center of Bucerías and acquired not only some really great flea market finds but the worst sunburn I’ve ever gotten. Dinner at El patron on the beach was nothing short of orgasmic.
Day 3
I got the opportunity to meet up with a friend who had moved to puerto Vallarta. We spent most of the day on the Beaches and quaint lunch/coffee spots. LuLu from healing hands gave me an hour long $20 usd full body massage on the beach where i accidentally flashed a family of 5, it happens. Totally worth it, i was in a good mood walking like my body was made of Jelly for the rest of the day. That evening we went downtown for dinner at Adautos and ended up at a fiesta near the beach where i saw my first display of Mexican traditional dancing and fell even farther in love with the country.
Day 4
Since i only had half of a day in Mexico left i spent it on the beach with a Pacífico. The cab ride back to the airport was a sad one.
Bucerías was the ideal Mexican destination for me. With a mix between authentic Mexican life and a dash of tourism services providing Horseback beach rides, parasailing and guided hikes i was well busy and active the entire trip. If i were to do it again i would try to stay for at least a week as i barely scratched the surface in those 4 days.
