The Mystifying Mr. Roadhouse - Allan Rayman

Lukas SkyeComment

Allan Rayman is a man that music journalists absolutely love to hate. Illusive by nature with an ever confusing backstory, a cult following and a cryptic social media presence Rayman has taken the Alternative R&B world like a thief in the night. The question on everyones lips since his most popular release “Tenessee” first hit streaming services back in 2016 has been “who the hell is this guy?”

Well, we don’t have any more information than you do. However, this mysterious act seems to be playing in Allans favor with his relatively new release of the single “6AM” amassing thousands of plays on multiple streaming services. The accompanying visuals for 6AM were shot by Steph Verschuren in a film like context presumably somewhere in the American desert.

The two-minute long film chronicles what seems to be a distraught Allan Rayman smoking cigarettes, yelling out of the window and stalking the alternate version of himself. A video reminiscent of a Tarantino film, it brings me back to Allan’s “Roadhouse 01” album days in 2017. With a sound that marries Alternative R&B components with Indie, Folk and dark western sounds its not surprising that Allan has managed to create a cult following over the years where everyone is just as eager to figure this guy out.

Rayman grew up in the small town of Lost Springs, Wyoming before moving to Toronto Canada, the midwestern background meeting big city life while trying to stay true to yourself is a strong metaphor that doesn’t seem to be lost on Allan. The dark but flowing lyricism on all of his projects could bring forth the murderous Swarovski crystal cowboy in us all, or maybe that’s just me. Either way I look forward to Raymans upcoming album “Christian” set for release sometime in 2020, until that day comes be sure to check out “6AM”.
