48 hours in San Diego

48 hours in San Diego

After staying away for years I finally got the opportunity to head back to one of my favorite California cities, San Diego. The last time I was in SD I had just started my traveling lifestyle so I was happy to get a new perspective.

PACIFIC SURFLINER

Seeing as how I was already in Los Angeles I definitely didn’t want to fly into San Diego and back down to LA. A friend suggested i take Amtrak down to San Diego and honestly i didnt even know that was an option. I ended up spending about $50 on train tickets for my entire journey up and down the coast, much cheaper than a flight. The seats on the train were comfortable and had a great view of the ocean, the free WiFi didn’t hurt either.

SEA AND SIGHTS

the first night of my arrival a friend and I jetted out to see the sunset over the ocean at crown point. Crown point park is a beach and viewpoint near La Jolla and PB. A perfect spot for stargazing, surfing and running.

The second day on a solo mission I made my way downtown for a meeting. San Diego’s downtown area is bustling with not only beautiful architecture but a scenic waterfront as well. I hopped on an electric scooter and made my way through the city. Seeing as how this was my first time on a “bird” I’m pretty amazed there were no broken bones involved, although I did get chastised by a cop for riding on the sidewalk (oops).

The San Diego waterfront is home to the maritime museum, the waterfront park and a few benches along the walkway to get a great view of the many sailboats nestled along the shore.

One of my favorite things to do in San Diego is visit the Salk Institute. If you’re a history/architectural nerd like i am you will fall madly in love. Jonas Salk was an American medical researcher who created one of the first polio vaccines. He then went on to found the institute that is still up and running today, making huge strides in the medical industry.

FOOD

The most important part of any trip for me is the food. San Diego did not disappoint.

Hoboken pizza near Mission Bay was amazing. Covered in desecrated old dollar bills and blasting music from Elton John and Pink Floyd I felt right at home.

Pokirrito downtown was everything you could ever dream of if you’re a fan of burritos and Poke alike.

Burros and fries in Clairemont made me the best torta I’ve ever had.

I always have the best time in this city and I absolutely intend on coming back, much sooner this time.

Thanks for having me San Diego.
